Vibe Alive Arrived and Thrived

Vibe Alive was held in Mildura on 12-13/11/08 and Outlook/Moovin Health sent 11 students to the event. Everyone had a good time and had an opportunity to mix with kids from across north western Victoria and parts of South Australia from Indigenous and non-Indigenous backgrounds. We ran a careers and health eating tent in conjunction with Wildfire.

The careers tent consisted of general information about health careers from the NRHSN and some University specific information. We were also able to borrow a talking, breathing etc. mannequin from the Melbourne University Rural Clinical School Clinical Skills Lab (big thanks must go to Jen Keast for this) which allowed the kids to participate in an interactive emergency situation and resuscitate the patient with CPR.
The kids also had an opportunity to have their arms plastered and learn more about health eating through gutsy gus presentations and a relay race for good and bad foods. We came back in the evening to see Kasey Donovan perform and watch the kids pull some hip-hop moves. Overall it was a fun event which flew by way too quickly.

The students also got to experience some of the nightlife in Mildura at the Brewery, O’Malleys Irish pub and the Trentham Estate Winery on the banks of the Murray River.
